What is oral surgery? At Waterford Smile Co, we know oral surgery can be a frightening topic. We do our best to provide surgical services in a calm, relaxing environment that will do anything but make you think of an operatory. Whether you need wisdom teeth extracted or bone grafting, we’ll help make your surgical needs a reality!
We are also able to offer oral sedation for patients who are extremely nervous about treatment. You’ll always be anaesthetized, but if you’d rather relax and potentially fall asleep during your procedure, we can make it happen!
For procedures that cannot be handled in house, we’ll refer you to one of our trusted specialists. They all work in the Winnipeg area and are well-respected, well-trained, and professional friends of Waterford Smile Co.
Kind and genuine. She took the time to walk me through everything I needed and helped me to prioritize what I should do first based on what I was able to do at the time. She also took the time to explain the details of the procedures I would need and did a thorough exam of my teeth. I never enjoyed going to the dentist in the past but I have to say after this great experience I’m looking forward to coming back. – Tatiana 5* Google Review
Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth often grow in without a problem, but it’s also quite common to need them extracted. Reasons for extraction can vary greatly, and we are equipped to handle a variety of them. In many cases, wisdom teeth removal becomes a surgical procedure, especially when the teeth aren’t fully erupted from your gums.
We’ll perform the surgery and provide you with aftercare instructions to make sure you recover quickly and easily.
Reasons for wisdom teeth extraction:
- Impacted teeth (growing in sideways) that can push other teeth out of alignment and have an effect on your long-term health
- Tooth decay due to partial eruption and difficulty keeping them clean
- Gum disease due to plaque trapped in hard-to-reach spots around your wisdom teeth
- Pain caused by wisdom teeth not coming in correctly
- Damage to other teeth
- Repeated infections of gums and surrounding tissue
Bone Grafting
If you are interested in dental implants, one of the most important requirements is that you have enough bone in your jaw to hold them. Over time, bone loss can result in greatly diminished jaw size, but we are able to restore your bone with grafting surgery!
By using either bone from elsewhere in your body or a growth material, we can increase the mass of the bone in your jaw back to a healthy size! We are also able to prevent bone loss after tooth extraction by filling the socket with a bone growth material that will create a solid piece of bone where your tooth was. This helps preserve the area for future implant placement.
Gum Surgery
Along with our cosmetic gum reshaping procedures, we also offer gum surgery for issues related to gum disease. For cases such as deep pockets formed by gum disease and other damage to your gum tissue, we can remove and repair gum tissue to preserve your oral health and promote better hygiene. For serious cases, we will refer you to a specialist.
If you have oral surgery needs, don’t wait for symptoms to go away – that can just lead to more pain later on.
