Take Proactive Control Of Your Oral Health!
For many patients, dental care is a reaction to a problem: fillings for cavities, crowns for damaged teeth, or bridges when extractions are necessary. For many patients, this can be due to a fear of regular appointments, or perhaps the belief that home care is enough to keep their teeth clean. At Waterford Smile Co, we take a different approach to oral health – a preventive one!
Being proactive about your oral health is essential to maintaining a healthy mouth. Not only does preventive dental care minimize the potential for painful conditions, but it can also save you money! By catching problems early and taking steps to keep your teeth and gums healthy, we can set you up for a smile that lasts a lifetime!

Cleanings and exams
Cleanings and exams are the most essential part of good preventive dental care. While brushing and flossing at home can prevent excessive plaque buildup and do a good job of protecting your teeth, there are hard-to-reach areas that are nearly impossible to keep clean on your own. Over time, plaque can build up, and the bacteria that makes it up produces acids that eat away at your enamel.
By keeping to a regular six-month schedule of teeth cleaning, we can find and prevent decay sites from getting worse and eliminate plaque buildup. You’ll be all set to go another six months with healthy, happy teeth!

Dental sealants
Dental sealants are a simple, quick, and incredibly effective way to prevent cavities in one of the most vulnerable areas of your mouth: the chewing surfaces of your bicuspids molars. These surfaces are covered in deep, narrow valleys that are nearly impossible to keep completely free of plaque. By applying dental sealants after a cleaning, we can seal out plaque and prevent cavities!
Sealants are made of dental resin and are applied and hardened in just a few minutes. It will take very little extra time during your regular cleaning to get years of security from cavities!

Fluoride treatments
Fluoride treatments are one of the easiest and most effective ways to rebuild lost tooth enamel. Even between your regular six-month appointments, tooth enamel is lost due to plaque acids attacking your teeth. Fluoride helps your teeth remineralize and rebuild enamel, undoing the damage that is caused through normal everyday living.
We offer fluoride as both a gel and a varnish. Fluoride gel sits in your mouth for several minutes and is then removed, whereas varnish is brushed on and left to dry. Varnish releases fluoride over time to remineralize your teeth slower and more consistently. Both methods are effective and can protect your teeth between regular appointments.

Mouthguards
Mouthguards are important in protecting your teeth. Not just for sports, but for teeth grinding, or bruxism, as well! Our bruxism nightguards are worn when you sleep. They cushion and support your teeth to prevent damage and movement, ensuring you never have to deal with the sensitive teeth, cavities, fractures, and lost teeth that bruxism can cause.
Sports mouthguards protect your teeth from damage and can also help prevent concussions as well! The force of your jaw being slammed hard during contact sports can cause serious trauma that can easily be avoided with a sports mouthguard!

Nutritional counseling
Nutritional counseling is also available for patients who aren’t sure what foods are the most beneficial for their teeth. We can also help you figure out what you should cut out of your diet to protect yourself from tooth damage!
Preventive dentistry care is a fundamental part of a healthy mouth, so don’t wait to get a checkup that could prevent and reverse damage!
